Premier League: Transfer window essentials (5)

4. Chelsea

For Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho the equation is pretty simple, sign a top class striker and the Blues probably become Premier League favourites in an instant.

Chelsea have not struggled for goals but their trio of target men have, with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba managing just five goals between them.

The Blues have barely hit top gear since Mourinho returned but still sit just two points off the table, with Torres, Eto'o and Ba all still searching for their first league goal away from Stamford Bridge this season.

Mourinho has the kind of creative, attacking quality in midfield that can create copious chances for a lone front man, so there is no excuse for such a frugal record in the final third.

A proven, reliable predator in his prime such as Radamel Falcao, Robert Lewandowski or Diego Costa would cost a hefty sum, but would probably deliver instant success for Mourinho in his second spell in West London.
