Premier League: Transfer window essentials (8)

8. Manchester United

Manchester United may be trailing back in eighth place after an underwhelming start to life under David Moyes, but they are still definitely within striking distance of an inflated chasing pack.

United tried to sign a whole host of top playmakers during the close season but failed with bids for Cesc Fabregas, Ander Herrera and Thiago Alcantara to name but a few.

Expect that position to be Moyes' number one priority when the window opens, particularly with the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Miralem Pjanic and Koke probably available for a sizeable fee.

Mounting injury concerns may also force Moyes to consider strengthening in other areas too, although I don't expect United to panic and implement wholesale changes in the middle of the campaign.
