It will be tough to top 2013 when it comes to transfers - from Gareth Bale's record-breaking move to Real Madrid to Neymar's long-awaited switch to Europe from Santos.

In the Premier League we've seen Manchester City break the £100m expenditure mark for the first time in three years while Manchester United spent £27.5m on a midfielder and Arsenal splashed a club record £42.5m on a playmaker from the Bernabeu.

So what potential moves await in 2014? Of course, it's a World Cup year - that often leads to inflated prices and panic buys.

Several Champions League contenders have important improvements to make to their already imposing squads - United need another midfielder, Arsenal a striker, Real Madrid always want another forward while Barcelona will need to replace Carles Puyol eventually.
