Chelsea and Manchester United have been issued a transfer warning over highly-rated Southampton defender Luke Shaw.
The England youth international has been in fine form for the Saints this season, alerting a number of top clubs to his potential availability in the New Year.
However, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has no plans to let the 18-year-old leave St. Mary's in January, insisting the player wants to remain on the south coast.
"It is a very clear situation. The player wants to stay, the club is not willing to sell," said the Saints boss, according to Sky Sports.
"What we also need to consider is that he is an 18-year-old player, that he is still maturing, still progressing. He is still learning how to be an experienced player.
"It has taken his some time to mature as a player and I think all these rumours and all this speculation around him is not beneficial for him. I think it is negative for him. I think it is very clear what the project here at Southampton is.
"Our project is about young players and Luke Shaw is a prime example of someone who has come through the ranks at this club. Again, the player is just not for sale. Again, he wants to stay, so there is no Luke Shaw case."
The comments will be a blow to interested parties, of which both the Blues and Red Devils are counted.
Indeed, reports in The Daily Telegraph a fortnight ago claimed Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was ready to make a £20million bid for the player in January.
'The Special One' isn't short of options in the position, with Ashley Cole falling behind Cesar Azpilicueta at Stamford Bridge, and young Ryan Bertrand also in the background at west London.
Shaw's arrival would have cast serious doubt over Cole's future in particular at Chelsea, but it now appears that a move to the King's Road is unlikely, irrespective of owner Roman Abramovich's financial might.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has also been linked with a move for the player this month, with The Daily Mirror claiming that the Premier League champions have switched their sights from Leighton Baines to the youngster.
Moyes endured a tough summer transfer window after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the Old Trafford helm, with Marouane Fellaini the Red Devils' only significant signing.
Landing Shaw ahead of their rivals would be a major coup for Manchester United, and also pose questions over the future of Patrice Evra at the club. However, a move now looks unlikely.
