8. Xavi

Barcelona midfielder Xavi is still one of the most consistent performers in Europe at the age of 33, picking out meaningful passes with alarming precision in La Liga for close to the entire calendar year.

Quite worryingly for Barca fans Xavi remains absolutely integral to their style of play despite his advancing years, even if Andres Iniesta helps to take some of the creative weight of his shoulders.

Next summer's World Cup will also surely be Xavi's international swansong, providing the chance for Spain's golden generation to underline their credentials with a fourth successive international trophy.
