When the season first started, Arsene Wenger’s worries of buying a world class striker looked to have faded away as Olivier Giroud was scoring goals for fun.
But now midway through the season, the headache is back for Wenger as there has been a dip in the form of Giroud.
Not only has the Frenchman failed to find the back of the net in his last six appearances, he has also been unable to score against the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and the two Manchester clubs.
Giroud is a fantastic player and has many qualities that have been favourable to Arsenal, but he lacks one quality and that is the true difference between title contenders and title winners.
Giroud is a fantastic player but realistically he will never be the player or striker Arsenal will need to win the league, at least not for this season. If Arsenal are to win the title this year, they cant wait for Giroud to develop and become the great striker the fans have yearned for since the departure of Robin van Persie.
They need a world class striker, someone who can win a game on his own, is a constant threat and installs fear in the opponent's defences.
He might be a good one touch finisher and is pretty good in the air, but the Frenchman isn't cultured enough for Arsenal’s attack. His technical ability is not world class and has been disappointing since arriving at the Emirates. Too often has he has had chances which he couldn't convert into goals.
The Gunners have a really creative midfield and a solid defence, but have struggled a lot to get goals against top tier teams because they lack a world class goal scorer.
Many Arsenal fans would disagree with the article stating the cause of dip in form is tiredness. The Frenchman might have played a lot of games for his team, but there are players who have played more minutes of football than him and yet performed better.
It is true his form might improve if Arsenal buy another striker to provide competition, but for me Giroud will never be the solution to Arsenal’s strike force.
Wenger should look out for new strikers when the transfer window opens in January. The north-London outfit have been linked to a host of great strikers in recent weeks including Diego Costa, who has been brilliant for Atletico Madrid, and Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez.
Who do you think can propel Arsenal to glory? Or is the squad good enough as it is?
