Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have suffered an injury blow during a busy festive period, with midfielder Aaron Ramsey suffering a thigh strain in the victory against West Ham.
With the usual hectic schedule around the Christmas and New Year period for Arsenal, the news will come as a blow to boss Wenger, who has seen his Welsh international in superb form. He has hit 13 goals already this season for the Gunners, surpassing the expectations of pundits and fans alike.
But it now seems Arsenal are set to miss their shining man of the midfield, with boss Wenger admitting that the Welshman's part in the Christmas fixtures was over.
"It looks [bad], it looks a thigh strain," said Wenger. "The Christmas period is certainly over for him".
Having splashed the cash on German ace Ozil in the summer, many Arsenal fans would have expected to see the former Real Madrid maestro on the sort of scoring tally that Ramsey has already acquired.
But it has been Ramsey that has stepped into the spotlight ahead of Ozil, as well as highly-rated Jack Wilshire, to play a huge part in firing the Gunners to top spot in the Premier League following the Boxing Day round of fixtures.
But Arsenal fans will be hoping that a good away win at West Ham is not over shadowed by the injury to such an in-form and key man for them at the present moment.
Ramsey will be sorely missed for Arsenal when they travel to a Newcastle side that currently sit sixth following a resounding 5-1 victory against Stoke on Boxing Day.
And with a strong midfield themselves, boasting the likes of Cabaye and Ben Arfa, Newcastle are in fine form themselves ahead of Arsenal's visit, having dropped just 4 points in their last nine league outings.
Wenger will need to contain his fellow countrymen on Sunday and will have known this already, but he must now plan for them without the influential Ramsey in his own midfield.
