When I say a complete player only one name comes to my mind and that name is Wayne Rooney. Scoring goals, stunning dribbles, providing long balls, tracking back to stop counter attacks of opponents, clearing balls from dangerous areas. You name it - the lad can do anything. His love for the game is displayed in every match he plays.
The England forward has everything in his locker and can do everything, well almost. Let me tell you why I have chosen Rooney and not Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Franck Ribery or Luis Suarez is because, irrespective of the great achievements of each of the players mentioned above, Rooney qualifies to be complete because of his playing style.
Rooney is probably one of the most prolific forwards Manchester United and England have had for years. Making his debut at the age of 16, Rooney was destined for success and has turned out to be a forward each club craves for.
Manchester United faced tough competition from Newcastle and a bid of €25.6million shows how valuable Rooney was to any team.
Rooney is one of the most versatile players at Manchester United. He played the No.8 position previously and then changed to the No.10 playmaker role.
If you are one who watches his games carefully, there isn't a game where you won’t find Rooney going deep into defence when the opponents attack. If you look at Ronaldo, Messi or Suarez you will never see them going back to help the team defend when needed.
Rooney’s balance strength and speed are gifts, although some might state that he is not fast because he appears to be fat. Perhaps having notched speeds of 30 km/h may silence doubters and haters.
While fully fit, Rooney can be seen running for long stretches of time, stopping and tackling players. He is no stranger to scoring goals and over 200 goals for Manchester United is a big achievement .
He is also an excellent central attacking midfielder or a playmaker and a brilliant dribbler. Often found to initiate counter attacks and do goal line clearances, Rooney on his day is undoubtedly one of the best forwards you can find in today’s world.
If the rival fans are still not convinced about his flair and brilliance, interest from rival managers including José Mourinho and Arsene Wenger often states that they would break the bank to bring him to their club might satisfy them. His composure and versatility are some qualities each forward should have on the football field.
Who according to you is the most complete player?
