With 2013 pretty much done (at least in terms of football), now seems like the best time to reflect on a pretty memorable year on the pitch.
Sir Alex Ferguson retired after more than 26 years at Old Trafford, Gareth Bale became the most expensive footballer in the history of the game and somehow, some way, Joe Kinnear landed himself a new job as a director of football.
But as with every year, 2013 was all about the goalscorers. Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo banged in the goals as regularly as ever, while a new wave of striking talent emerged to challenge their dominance.
