Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly shortlisted Marseille maestro Mathieu Valbuena as a potential shock January addition, with the French international attracting interest across Europe.
Valbuena has been consistently linked with a switch to the Emirates in previous seasons but a rumoured move has always failed to materialise, with Wenger preferring to look elsewhere for creative impetus in the final third.
Wenger insisted last weekend that the Gunners are not targeting Yohan Cabaye or any other midfield additions in January, but that has not been enough to stop The Mirror reporting that El Mundo Deportivo think the surprise switch may be back on.
The 29-year-old has stayed loyal to Marseille since 2006 despite being linked with a lucrative move on more than one occasion, but a change in regime at the Ligue 1 club coupled with poor form is thought to be the driving force behind fresh exit talk.
Atletico Madrid and Napoli are also keeping tabs on his availability, but in a World Cup year Valbuena is unlikely to switch without some assurances over guaranteed first-team opportunities.
