The January transfer window is so close you can smell it; to some is a reeking stench of misinformation and unfulfilled links, while to others it is the sweet fragrance of a bouquet of endless big-money possibilities and exciting, exotic new players.

Whatever one feels about the annual winter window, there can be no denying that dealings during that most hectic of months are certain to occupy much of what is being talked about among fans.

January, GMS speculates, largely inspires the feeling of foreboding for a good number of football fans. Fears of favourite players being poached by big-spending rivals or that sinking feeling of realising the player desperately needed isn't coming abound.

It is a time of hand-wringing, wheeler-dealing and is probably mostly negative - however, it can provide sweet release for some players that are living through the misery of not being picked very often, or never at all.

There are more than a few of these particular characters in the Premier League and GMS have decided to pick out five that really could do with having a go somewhere else, whether it be permanently or on loan.
