4. Chris Froome wins the Tour de France

While all the headlines surrounding cycling in 2013 mainly focused on Lance Armstrong's admission of taking performance enhancing drugs, Chris Froome kept Britain's hold on the famous yellow jersey winning the Tour de France.

After Bradley Wiggins had pulled out from defending the yellow jersey that he claimed just prior to the 2012 Olympics, the emphasis shifted to Froome who stepped up and led Team Sky's charge.

In the early stages, Froome had stayed mostly with the main group. However, once the Tour entered the mountains for stage eight, he won that leg, moved to the front and would stay all the way through to the end.

He used the mountain and individual time trial stages to maintain his lead winning another mountain and a time trial leg meaning he claimed three stage wins during the tour.

By the end, his overall time of 83:56:40 secs saw him win by over four minutes from Colombian Nairo Quintana with Spain's Joaquim Rodriguez in third.
