Liverpool are confident that long-term target Mohamed Salah will join the club in January, according to the Mirror.

Months of speculation has pointed to the notion that the Reds will move for the Basel star at the next available opportunity, and they are now believed to be hopeful of landing his signature at some point during the winter transfer window.

This is stark contrast to comments made by manager Brendan Rodgers that stated no new additions were “imminent”- despite the fact that transfers become a possibility as of midnight tonight- but according to sources Liverpool are moving forward with negotiations concerning a deal for Salah.

The 21-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United this month, and is thought to be valued at around £7million.

The Premier League champions were said to be eyeing a swoop for Salah, who has scored a remarkable 17 times in 26 appearances for his native country.

The race for the winger is likely to hit fever pitch in the coming weeks with David Moyes unlikely to allow Liverpool to sign a player who is on his transfer list, but given the fact that Salah fits the bill for Rodgers, a move to Anfield may well be the odds on favourite at the moment.
