In a heavily anticipated rematch for the UFC Middleweight title, Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva were expected to go the distance.
Unfortunately for the challenger, Weidman dominated a lopsided first round against Silva.
The American displayed his superior wrestling skills and was no doubt on his way to proving that he was the real deal as a champion. But the second round completely changed that in a way that no one could have anticipated.
Anderson Silva came out of his corner prepared for the second round and sized up Weidman; the two traded blows but nothing substantial.
Then Silva went on to throw a leg kick but suddenly dropped.
While the crowd booed due to the victory for Weidman at first, once they saw the replay something a lot scarier was apparent: Silva had clearly fractured his leg.
Weidman after watching the replay himself ran over to Silva offering help or whatever he could do to help.
“No matter what, Anderson Silva is still the greatest of all time,” said the middleweight champion, who went on to say that this injury changes nothing about Silva’s career work.
