One can only wonder, is Peyton Manning the best quarterback ever? Well there is a reasonable argument for the former Indianapolis Colt turned Denver Bronco being considered among the greatest to every play the game.
Manning's career numbers coupled with a consistently high standard of performance this year must make him a leading candidate for superstar status.
Why am I bringing this up now? Manning recently broke both the record for most touchdowns and yards in a season, with 55 TDs and 5,477 yards respectively.
The reason that he may truly be remembered as the best is because of his football IQ and the fact that he has delivered the goods for two different teams.
Now you may say there are superior quarterbacks elsewhere in the NFL today, with two names with the potential to overshadow Manning elsewhere Tom Brady and Drew Brees.
Brady has had arguably one of the top head coaches ever in Bill Belichick and a very sturdy offensive line throughout his career. Brees on the other hand, has been absolutely amazing at times but the fact that his team’s seasons have been so inconsistent rules him out of contention, only just.
Manning has clearly revolutionized the game with his pre-play audibles and made almost every receiver he has worked with a better player.
It will be interesting to see where Maning stands at the end of his career, but for now we can only wait and see what he does in the 2013 NFL Playoffs.
The Denver Broncos seem poised to make it to the Superbowl on current form, but if they can make that statement a reality is another question altogether.
