The January transfer window has been open for barely two days but strikers across Europe are already being linked with Arsenal. Below, I rate the chances of such moves and the type of price that Arsenal could have to pay to gain their services...

1. Alvaro Morata – Real Madrid
Price – Loan deal or around £10 million
Chance of deal this January: 3/5

There has been much coverage in the press of Wenger’s apparent pursuit of Morata, and it appears that the 21-year-old is an option that Arsene Wenger is keen on. Morata has been deadly for the Spain U21 team, scoring 12 times in 11 games and is seen as the most likely option for Arsenal due to his lack of first team chances at Real Madrid this season.

2. Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid
Price – Release clause of £32 million
Chance of deal this January: 2/5

Costa has been on fire this season, with his 23 goals firing Atletico behind Barcelona only on goal difference. Wenger has seemingly been very interested in Costa, however the price of his release clause may prove difficult as Wenger has not typically been keen to spend that type of money in the January transfer window.

Furthermore, Atletico will be very keen to keep hold of the in-form striker as they push for both the Champions League and La Liga title. However, if his release clause was met, they would have no choice but to accept the bid from Arsenal.

3. Karim Benzema – Real Madrid
Price – Around £27 million
Chance of deal this January: 3/5

Another Real Madrid striker seemingly on Wenger’s radar, Benzema was linked to Arsenal throughout the summer in a move that never materialised. Benzema is under fire for his below par form this season, with just eight goals in 15 games.

However, as with Morata, Real Madrid would need to sign another striker to be able to let Benzema go, and as first choice, Real Madrid would need to sign a striker who would become first choice, which casts doubt on the transfer this January.

4. Dimitar Berbatov- Fulham
Price: Around £2m
Chance: 3/5

The transfer that could surprise many, it is no secret that Wenger has long been a keen admirer of Berbatov. His style of free-flowing passing football would clearly fit well with Arsenal and he would most likely be available for a small fee which is of course appealing - especially to Arsenal.

However, Wenger is not one to sign players who are over 30, but Berbatov has proven quality in the Premier League with four goals and one assist this season. Wenger will have to go against his policy to sign Berbatov, but he may provide the short-term quality and cover needed for Arsenal to push themselves towards glory this season.
