Champions League and Bundesliga runners up Borussia Dortmund have joined the pursuit of Atletico Madrid front man Diego Costa.
They won’t have an easy time getting the Brazilian though, not only will they have to persuade Atletico to part with their main man, which in itself look’s hard, they will also though have to fight off Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea to the signature of the 25-year-old Brazilian, who have shown interest since the summer transfer window.
Costa currently lead’s the La Liga goal scoring charts with 19, ahead of Ballon d’Or favourite Cristiano Ronaldo by one goal, this in itself is a reason to sign him. He also though, is a very hard worker, and is willing to press the ball, or chase back if he’s lost it.
So of the three club’s chasing him, who need’s him most…
3. Borussia Dortmund – Bundelsiga
Needing him the least are the team I believe are most likely to get him.
Not only do Dortmund have a very capable front man in Robert Lewandowski, but in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, is a player that would walk into the starting 11 of most Premier League teams.
Not only this, but a lack of goals at the Signal Iduna Park has not been the problem this season, it’s the leaky back line that has lead to them being fourth in the Bundesliga table.
To conclude, Dortmund’s money would be better put to use on tightening up the defence, not wasting it on another striker.
2. Arsenal – Premier League
While possibly a month ago I would of said Arsenal need him most, now in Nicklas Bendtner is a player that look’s a player returning back to his best, and when he’s at his best he’s quite a player.
He may still have to do a lot to endear himself to the Arsenal fans, I believe he could be the perfect replacement for Olivier Giroud, should the Frenchman be unavailable.
The Dane has a very similar style to the current Arsenal striker, he’s strong, good at holding the ball up and good in the box. The long time forgotten man of the Emirates does lack pace in behind, but that doesn’t matter, as there is speed in abundance down the wings.
Ultimately, I can see why Arsene Wenger may not believe that Bendtner is the answer, but Costa is far from needed in the north London.
1. Chelsea – Premier League
In Chelsea is a team in desperate need of a striker, Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o have scored a combined three this season, 17 off top scorer Luis Suarez.
Costa I believe would bring the title back to Stamford Bridge after a three season absence, his strength, pace and aerial ability would offer something for the front three to play off of.
Right now, their passing it about very nicely between themselves, but have very little options in a one-two with the front man. This is exactly what Costa does, he brings other’s in to the
game, and gets on the end of thing’s in the box.
A lack of goals at Chelsea is the disease and Costa is the vaccine.
