Players come and players go, but a sign of a good team is how they go about replacing those most important to them.

Manchester United sold Jaap Stam, but in came Rio Ferdinand. David Beckham left for Real Madrid, but Cristiano Ronaldo soon rendered this transfer redundant.

There are times, however, when a club will rely on a player from their youth ranks to rise to the challenge following the departure of a prominent performer. Ronaldinho left Barcelona, but Lionel Messi was hardly a bad option to become Barcelona's new talisman.
