Chelsea are preparing to enter a three-way fight with London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to land promising Swiss star Fabian Schar.
According to the London Evening Standard, Jose Mourinho has been very impressed with the 22-year-old over the last couple of seasons, though so have Arsene Wenger and Spurs scouts.
Chelsea got a first-hand look at him in this season's Champions League, as the Blues were drawn together with FC Basel in the group stages and were beaten twice by the Swiss team.
Schar is a strong, imposing centre-back and would provide either Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea with good cover in defence, though the rate at which he is developing could see him push for a place in all three sides' starting XIs.
Chelsea have lots of cover in that area, but there has been speculation over the future of David Luiz in recent months and John Terry is nearing the end of his career, so a promising young addition in that area may be required.
Meanwhile, Arsenal only have three senior specialist centre-backs in Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and club captain Thomas Vermaelen, though the latter has fallen out of favour and is also being linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium.
