Arsenal are readying a move to sign Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, reports Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday People.
If the Gunners can secure a deal for the Royals 'keeper, then Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will let Lukasz Fabianski leave the club on a free.
The Gunners boss already let Vito Mannone join Premier League outfit Sunderland this past summer and will now hope to bring McCarthy to the Emirates.
The goalkeeper, who has been part of Roy Hodgson's England setup in recent time, has been in fine form over the past couple of seasons at the Madejski and could now make the move to north London.
McCarthy will have to go head-to-head with Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 shirt at the Emirates, however it's expected that Arsene Wenger will see the 'keeper as a back-up to the Polish international.
Arsenal have been tipped to make signings in this January transfer window and McCarthy could be one star heading to north London, however they may have to compete with Newcastle United, who are also interested in the player's signature.
