There may be a blockbuster trade in the works… Then again it may just be another false rumor. Either way the idea of simply thinking that the Los Angeles Clippers would trade Blake Griffin for New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony is tantalising.
Griffin, the former 1st overall pick and explosive power forward for star small forward Anthony, the league’s leading scorer last year, could be huge for both teams.
Griffin could finally give the Knicks what they have wanted; an athletic power forward to attack other teams in the way that Amar'e Stoudemire never turned out to be capable of.
But the Clippers would gain something as well; Carmelo would bring a determined scorer to the team that wouldn’t need to come off the bench like let’s say, a Jamal Crawford or handle the ball every possession like Chris Paul.
No, Anthony would lighten a bit of the load off of Paul and allow him to really focus on being a floor general and not force up shots. Here’s the unfortunate thing though, Paul is injured. Not to mention that the Clippers have not looked good since his going down.
If there was ever a time that the New York Knicks should come knocking, this is it. They miss Paul’s scoring and need someone that can create for themselves. Now after being asked about the trade rumors, Clippers coach Doc Rivers said the rumors were “so stupid.”
One would assume that Rivers has his control over the team and that they won’t make a trade unless it gets his consent. Right now it’s a waiting game. Let’s see who wins…
