San Jose Sharks center Logan Couture has been ruled out for three to four weeks with a hand injury, according to ESPN.
Canadian ice hockey star Couture will undergo surgery before resting his hand for just under a month in hope that he makes a return to full fitness.
Couture, who has scored 14 goals and claimed 21 assists for the San Jose Sharks, could miss around nine NHL games.
The 24-year-old has been struggling with an injury for some time now but had decided to delay having surgery on his hand until now.
San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said on Couture's injury:
"For the past several weeks, Logan has been dealing and playing with an upper body injury."
Couture will be hoping he can recover from his hand injury in time to represent Canada at next month's Winter Olympics in Russia.
The San Jose Sharks will have to do without Couture for their game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
