Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic could be in the sights of Barcelona, if reports from the Spanish press are to believed.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Serbian centre-back, whose contract is up at the end of the current season, has been targeted by the Catalan giants, who would seek to see him paired up with former team-mate Gerard Pique.
Having failed to bring in both David Luiz and Thiago Silva with recent efforts, it’s thought that Gerardo Martino has prioritised the signing of a new central defender, and Vidic fits the bill perfectly.
The once great partnership of Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at United has waned in recent years, and many are now calling for fresh blood to be installed into the side. With the 32-year-old yet to agree a new deal with the Premier League champions it could very well be his decision if he leaves or not.
Sources suggest that Barca will test his resolve in the summer, where they can effectively get him for nothing if he declines any forthcoming offer of a new contract at United.
