Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is confident that Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan will sign a new contract with the Bundesliga giants, reports talkSPORT.

The 23-year-old midfielder is currently sidelined by injury, after suffering a back problem in August, and the German club are prioritising nursing his return to fitness before opening negotiations over a new deal.

Red Devils boss David Moyes has been credited with an interest in bringing the Germany international to Old Trafford, as he looks to add a creative spark to his midfield ranks.

However, Manchester United's hopes of securing Gundogan's signature look increasingly slim, after Zorc revealed that there is a good chance the player will extend his stay at the Westfalenstadion, with Jurgen Klopp's side.

"For Ilkay, the most important thing is that he gets well first," he is quoted by German newspaper Bild.

"But we will soon have discussions with him and his family, we have a very good relationship with them."

Gundogan's current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, so Borussia Dortmund still have plenty of time to conclude negotiations with the in-demand star.
