Bradley Beal opted against wearing the No.23 jersey when he arrived in Washington but, admits the Wizards shooting guard, he associates that iconic number more readily with LeBron James than he does Michael Jordan.
The 20-year-old wore No.23 in his college days but chose not to take it when he was drafted to the capital, with this jersey donned by Jordan during his time with both the Chicago Bulls and the Wizards.
It is the number that also emblazoned the back of LeBron while he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers and, given his tender years, Beal admits he will always think of the Miami Heat superstar when 23 gets a mention.
"I never watched Michael Jordan growing up," Beal told Wizards Magazine.
"I grew up, '23' was LeBron. I always knew about Michael Jordan, but I can’t necessarily model myself after him. I always admired LeBron and the way he played all the time when he was in Cleveland."
LeBron was 23 for the Cavs during seven years in Cleveland but has adopted the No.6 since moving to the Heat as a free agent in 2010. It is a number change that appears to have worked for the 29-year-old, who has won the NBA Championships in each of the last two seasons.
