Not only did Tampa Bay Lightning's Steve Stamkos have the luxury of getting into the Team Canada squad for the Sochi Olympics yesterday, he also received a cake after his side beat Winnipeg.
Tampa beat the Jets 4-2 in Canada, and after the game Stamkos found a sizeable gem when he went back to his room at The Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel.
Announcing on Twitter Wednesday, Stamkos wrote, "Found this in my room last night. Classy move by the Fairmont Winnipeg. How did it taste @Bugsy12Malone??" [fellow Lightning player].
The speedy center has been out since Nov 11th after suffering a broken tibia against the Boston Bruins, but he's hopeful of returning in time to help Canada defend their Olympic title next month.
Stamkos has 23 points (14 goals and 9 assists) in 17 NHL games so far this season. Over the last three seasons he has averaged more than a point a game.
Reigning Art Ross Trophy winner Martin St Louis shouldered the injury burden again against the Jets with two crucial goals, showing plenty of character in spite of not being named in the Sochi squad.
The Lightning (26-13-4) have won three of their last four games, all of which have been in Canada, while the Jets (19-22-5) lost their fourth straight game.
