Bobby Petrino is expected to return as coach at Louisville Cardinal according to sources at ESPN.
The current Western Kentucky head coach has been interviewed in recent days and is said to be close to accepting the position.
He would be returning to familiar territory should he complete the move, having been in charge of the Cardinals between 2003 to 2006 before taking up a role at the Atlanta Falcons.
Having led the Cardinals to a 12-1 record on route to their first BCS bowl victory in 2006 he would be hoping to build upon the Cards 12-1 record under Charlie Strong this season.Strong has recently taken up a role at Texas.
Petrino’s college record (83-30) is impressive, however he is no stranger to controversy having been removed from his position at Arkansas following an incident whilst riding a motorcycle with his mistress, and former Razorbacks volleyball player, in April 2012.
Petrino has been at Western Kentucky since December 2012 and saw his team finish with a winning 8-4 record this season.
