Lotus won't be the only team skipping the first pre-season test in Jerez, according to team principle Eric Boullier.
This claim comes after it was announced earlier this week that the team will not be attending the test at the end of this month as the outfit believe it will be of more benefit to them if they spend more time developing the car. The test gets kicks off in just under three weeks.
The Frenchman told the BBC: "You will see, we will not be the only team not being in Jerez, I know this for a fact already."
The team have known for some time that the car will not be ready for the opening test and do not see a reason to rush things along to join others in the first test.
He added: "We already said a month ago that it is going to be tight. Actually most of the teams agreed it was going to be tight. Then it was a decision we took."
All the teams are stretching their resources to build the new cars and have been in development for some time. Depending on who and what you believe some of the top teams have been designing and developing the new chasis for two years.
Due to the mass change in regulations, this is a huge project that comes with huge risk. If one team or an engine supplier show up with a bad package, it may take a very long time to recover.
Lotus will be looking for another strong season after being the only team towards the end of the season able to remotely challenge the Red Bull. With the pairing of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado there is a chance to score big points.
Lotus worked wonders with Grosjean, who was considered a danger by some. The 27 year old put in some terrific performances last season and managed to get onto the podium six times.
The team will be looking to work their magic on Maldonado, who did have a tendency to crash whilst at the same time being competitive on a number of occasions since joining F1 in 2011.
He will be looking to put last year in the back of his mind as he endured a torrid campaign in his last season with Williams scoring just one point.
