Top 10: Footballers facing a make or break 2014 (1)

Published 1 Comments

2014 has reared it's beautiful head around the corner, bringing with it hope of a fresh start and a Brazilian-hosted World Cup.

For many of football's finest talents, 2013 brought prosperity and good fortune where for others, it seemed to be something of a stinker.

Take Barcelona, who crashed out of the Champions League to their apparent successors Bayern Munich after a 7-0 thrashing over two legs.

Manchester United lost the talismanic leader Sir Alex Ferguson to retirement while Arsenal undid that pesky knot on their purse string to sign Germany's best player Mesut Ozil.

Some will be hoping to pick up where 2013 left off, but for others a massive turnaround in fortune is needed. With the World Cup round the corner, some of football's biggest stars will hold the expectation of a nation. Others will just need a good year to salvage what is left of a diminished reputation.

Here we take a look at 10 players with everything to prove this year.
