Jessica Ennis-Hill has announced this morning (Friday) that she’s expecting her first child.
The 2012 Olympic gold medallist married childhood sweetheart Andy Hill back in May last year, and the pair has more joyous news eight months later with the announcement of her pregnancy at 8am this morning.
The news does mean that Ennis-Hill will no longer be able to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year however, a Games in which she has only ever claimed a bronze in the heptathlon - back in Melbourne in 2006.
One of Sheffield’s greatest ever athletes, Ennis-Hill won a number of junior medals before her first major breakthrough at senior level – at the aforementioned Commonwealth Games.
She won World Championship gold in Berlin three-years later after missing the 2008 Olympics through injury, and maintained her place amongst the elite in her event leading up to the London Games of 2012.
After a gradual return to action following the success on home soil, Ennis-Hill will now enjoy another spell on the sidelines – although this time for much happier reasons.
More details from Ennis-Hill will be released on her official Facebook page at 8:30am this morning (Friday). CLICK HERE to Like the page.
