Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe has agreed a switch to MLS outfit Toronto FC, according to BBC Sport.
The deal will see the England striker join with his new team on the February 28 2014.
With Spurs having made some big money moves this summer following the departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, Defoe has found himself down the pecking order somewhat at White Hart Lane.
With Roberto Soldado the main starting man, Defoe has also seen Emmanuel Adebayor come back in from the cold in recent times.
New manager Tim Sherwood, who replaced the departed Villas-Boas following a string of poor results, has allowed Defoe to leave for a new challenge over the pond in the States.
"This is a great opportunity for Jermain and he feels it is one that he wishes to pursue." said Sherwood earlier this morning.
Defoe has been at the Lane since 1999 and has become a huge fan favourite in his time with Spurs. His goals saw him become once one of the most feared forwards in the Premier League, and Toronto are gaining a play with vast experience and still a supreme eye for goal.
Spurs fans will be forgiven for being a little disappointed to see such a prolific goalscorer leaving the club, especially while they are still trying to find their way under new boss Sherwood.
But given his lack of chances, Defoe must feel the time is right to leave a club that he has become such a huge figure at. And Sherwood must also be confident that he will not need the troublesome little forward for the challenges ahead.
The departure of Defoe will be a a huge loss to the Premier League, but England fans will be hoping he can find his shooting boots in the MLS and keep his name in contention for a place in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.
