Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he pleaded with former red Cristiano Ronaldo to make an heroic return to Manchester over the summer.
Perhaps United's fortunes would of been so much different with the Portuguese star returning to the club where he was so successful.
Ronaldo scored 84 goals during his six years in Manchester and was a fans favourite. With Ronaldo being one of the worlds top top players, there is no doubt that things would be different at United with the player's services.
United are lagging behind in the title race and are on the back foot in their Capital One Cup semi-final thanks to a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the week and fans are calling for change.
With United missing the likes of Robin van Persie, it has been up to the likes of Danny Welbeck and Adnan Januzaj to step up the the mark. Whilst those two players have stood out for United, the quality of Ronaldo is still missed.
United are currently lacking players that are considered to be 'world class'. With players such as Tom Cleverley, Nani, Anderson and Jonny Evans being players that instantly spring to mind.
Just imagine for a second established stars such as Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Van Persie mixed in with the likes of Welbeck and Januzaj? With the two youngsters learning from the three previously listed, the club would be destined for success - especially considering Ronaldo recently knocked in his 400th career goal.
Would Ronaldo's recapture put United at the top of the table? Probably not, one player can't make the difference as we know, but surely if Ronaldo had returned then United would not currently be in seventh place and out the FA Cup.
