Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is said to be looking into taking Tottenham star Etienne Capoue on loan, according to the Daily Mirror.

Despite only arriving at White Hart Lane last summer, the Frenchman's future is already an uncertain one.

Benitez sees the 25-year-old as an alternative to midfielder Radja Nainggolan, who has just joined Serie A rivals Roma on loan from Cagliari for a €3 million loan fee, with an option to buy the Belgian international at the end of the season for a further €6 million.

Current Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood prefers to utilise promising youngster Nabil Bentaleb, ahead of Capoue. starting him in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Former Chelsea and Liverpool boss Benitez hopes to bring the Frenchman in to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season as they hope to guarantee Champions League football for next season.

Capoue's opportunities have been limited this season for Spurs, having played two of their opening three games he was sidelined with injury during the first North London derby of the season with Arsenal.

Upon his return in November, Capoue was played in and out of position under ex-Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, giving him little chance to cement his place as a starter.
