Napoli are said to be interested in signing Barcelona star Javier Mascherano, and fellow Argentine Gonzalo Higuain believes he should join Rafa Benitez's side.
The Italian giants have been linked with several defenders since last summer's window, many of whom have worked with Benitez before. The Argentine is the latest to be targeted.
Napoli boss Rafa Benitez worked with the Argentine, who can operate as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, in his days as Liverpool manager and appears keen to rekindle their working relationship.
"The fans would like to see a warrior like Mascherano arrive. Benitez knows him well from Liverpool. We will see," Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuan told Radio Kiss Kiss.
"We know it is hard to move in January but [Riccardo Bigon] is doing everything possible."
The signing would see the ex-Liverpool player link up with his former boss Rafa Benitez and his former teammate Pepe Reina- who is on loan at Napoli from Liverpool.
"I do keep in contact with Mascherano," the goalkeeper said.
"He’s a lovely guy with a winning mentality, a real gladiator," he said.
"Now he plays for Barça and I cannot say more than that, but if he wants to come then I can give him a hand."
Benitez is looking for defensive players to strengthen his Napoli side as they push on after a successful first half of the season which sees them sat in third place in Serie A.
