Arsenal are being linked with a move for Roma striker Mattia Destro, according to talkSPORT.
The Gunners have been locked in faltering talks with Real Madrid in a bid to sign their young attacker Alvaro Morata, but could now make a move for the Italian instead.
Rai TV have reported that Roma are trying to deter Arsene Wenger from approaching the striker, who is currently a bit-part player for the Serie A side.
Roma's wealth of attacking options and incredible success so far this season have seen Destro's opportunities limited, but he has still managed to net three goals in four appearances.
Wenger has allegedly contacted the player's agent Claudio Vigorelli in a bid to discover the availability of the 22-year-old Italian.
The Arsenal boss was in the market for a striker and is now in desperate need of attacking options given the horror injury to Theo Walcott, keeping the England winger sidelined for six months.
Destro has been involved in four goals in his four appearances (two of which were off the bench as a substitute), scoring three and assisting a fourth.
He is known for his ability to hold up the ball and win aerial battles, which will appeal to Wenger given the incredibly creative midfield he boasts at Arsenal.
His style of play suits Arsenal's, liking to play short passes and good on the counter- the young Italian could be a real asset to Wenger as he looks to continue the success he experienced in the first half of the season.
Destro would be seen as good cover for Olivier Giroud, should the Frenchman require a rest or suffer a dip in form.
