The pain of losing Portuguese superstar to bitter rivals Real Madrid for a then world-record fee still runs deep at the Camp Nou, but at least there was the consolation of a mighty profit exceeding £30m to keep as comfort.

Figo was famously greeted by flying pig's head on his return to the Camp Nou but with the obscene fee he fetched Barca were eventually able to rebuild after a sustained spell of financial turmoil.
