Leeds United have announced a shock partnership with NFL giants the San Fransico 49ers. The Deal between the clubs will see executives from either side of the Atlantic meet to discuss marketing ideas, sponsorship, and commercial ideas between the clubs.
Leeds United managing director David Haigh revealed the dual-deal today, announcing: "This is a strategic partnership and we're looking forward to working closely with the 49ers."
"They are a worldwide brand, and we'll be discussing all aspects of our business; marketing, ticketing, merchandising, and commercial opportunities, and hopefully tapping into and sharing knowledge with them.”
The Link will go down well with Leeds United’s large following, easily one of the largest for any non-Premier League team given their rich history and tradition.
San Fransico 49’ers chief operating also approved of the move, declaring: “The 49ers are very excited about the prospect of partnering with Leeds United, a club with an international following as well as great history and tradition."
The move comes as another in a long line of ways the Leeds United board are trying to reconnect with fans as well as bring money into the team, after years of boardroom unrest.
The 49ers meanwhile are still in the NFL playoffs in the hunt for the superbowl ahead of their move to new Levi’s® Stadium later this year
