Tonight in New York, the Barclays Center will play host to an NBA game with a bit of a difference. The rules are the same, the rosters exactly as you'd expect, the fans aren't doing anything special either.
But the players might confuse you. Stepping out tonight, our TV's will be graced by names some of us aren't used to. For the Brooklyn Nets we have 'Plums', 'Joker' and 'The Big Ticket' representing the Nets while on the other side of the court 'Moneymase' and 'Cole Train' will be taking to the floor for the Miami Heat.
No, the Harlem Globetrotters haven't got one game deals, nor are AND1 streetball having a comeback. The NBA have allowed the teams to play with their nicknames on the back of their jerseys. So, in what is quite obviously a giant marketing ploy, King James and The Truth will be showing their stuff for all to see.
But there are some really terrible nicknames about to play. Joe Johnson, Greg Oden, Udonis Haslem, Chris Bosh and James Jones will all just be wearing their initials. I mean come on, they could at least try to come up with something entertaining!
So, in light of this, we're going to move away from average and focus on purely the best nicknames from pro basketball history.
