Manchester United are preparing to make a £24m bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, reports the Daily Mirror.
The German midfielder has been highly sought after following his excellent performances last season, where he inspired Jurgen Klopp's men to a Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
However, this season hasn't been great for Gundogan thus far having spent the majority of it on the sidelines with a longstanding back problem.
But that has not deterred the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, with both clubs reported to be holding an interest in signing Gundogan.
Real Madrid were believed to be favourites to land Gundogan, with the player's father hinting that a move to Los Blancos was preferred by his son.
But David Moyes is refusing to give up on the German international, knowing another high profile failure in the transfer window will only put more pressure on him at Old Trafford.
The Mirror say that Manchester United have already held talks with Gundogan's representatives and have been encouraged enough to launch a £24m bid for the player.
With only 18 months left on his contract, Borussia Dortmund have urged Gundogan to make his mind up over his future, knowing his valuation will go down if his contract is allowed to run in to its final year.
That means Dortmund could be keen to offload the player in January, giving Manchester United a good chance to find the midfield reinforcement they have been craving all season.
So far the Red Devils have struggled in the Premier League, losing five games at Old Trafford in all competitions after a disappointing summer transfer window.
Moyes attempted to sign the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas but failed to do so, leaving the team short of reinforcements in the centre of the field.
