Borussia Dortmund are considering a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, reports German source Bild.
The Bundesliga club have been rocked by the news that their star striker Lewandowski will join rivals Bayern Munich when his contract runs out at the end of the season. The news was expected and the hunt for his replacement has now begun.
Unfortunately for Arsenal and Chelsea, it seems Jurgen Klopp has turned his attentions towards Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
The French international was strongly linked with a move to both Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer but both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho failed to make an official bid.
Both managers were expected to return for the striker in January with a £22m bid thought to be enough to convince Madrid to sell, but his resurgent form at the Bernabeu has left Carlo Ancelotti unwilling to sell Benzema halfway through the season.
Benzema was subjected to boos from the Real Madrid crowd at the beginning of the season but has played his way back in to their good books, scoring nine goals in La Liga so far.
But Dortmund still fancy their chances of bagging Benzema in the summer when Lewandowski finally departs the club.
Bild claim that Benzema is still not entirely settled in the Spanish capital and could be tempted by a fresh challenge should one that appeals come his way.
Both the Gunners and the Chelsea have had trouble with their strikers this season with Wenger short of options at the Emirates due to injury, and Mourinho not convinced on the form of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o or Demba Ba.
But with Real Madrid currently chasing down Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the league and Benzema cup-tied for the Champions League, a deal in January is looking less than likely.
