Manchester United target Ezequiel Garay could join Serie A outfit Napoli, according to reports in Portugal.

The Red Devils were said to be closing in on a deal that would see the Benfica centre-back move to England in June for a fee of just £8million.

However reports emulating from Portugal suggest Napoli could land the Argentine international in a double deal that would also see Rodrigo leave the Estádio da Luz for Italy.

Manchester United sent scouts to watch the former Real Madrid man in action in his side's encounter with Porto to get a closer look at the stopper.

However Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes believes Manchester United's number one defensive target is Porto's Eliaquim Mangala.

The 22-year-old Frenchman could not stop his side from falling to a 2-0 defeat against their Portuguese rivals.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez had been linked with making a move for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic to strengthen their back-line, however the Spaniard has now reportedly made Garay his number one transfer target.
