It was all going so well for Marques Colston.

The New Orleans Saints wide receiver had just caught a touchdown pass with just 26 left on the clock to keep his team alive in the playoffs.

Then, just a few seconds later, Colston recovered an onside kick for his side to give the Saints one last chance to tie the game.

But then, after catching a pass from Brees on Seattle's 38-yard line with seven seconds remaining he went and attempted a cross-field lateral pass when one step to the right would have stopped the clock and given the Saints a shot at a Hail Mary and possible two-point conversion attempt to send the game into overtime.

They say professional athletes are different because they see things us mere mortals would not.

This was not one of those instances.

And while Colston will have the whole off-season to contemplate why he did what he did, he can at least take solace in the fact that there are plenty of other players in the history of the NFL who have suffered similar moments of idiocy.
