Manchester United appear to be set to miss out on long-term target Ezequiel Garay, with Zenit St. Petersburg currently preparing a deal to take him to Russia, according to talkSPORT.
The source, citing Portuguese publication A Bola, suggests that David Moyes may now have to turn to other targets in his bid to revamp his squad, as Zenit are readying a swap deal with their defender Luis Neto in order to convince Benfica to allow him to leave for the Russian Premier League.
United’s interest in Garay has been present since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, when the club reportedly came very close to signing him. Moyes has also been credited as having had the player scouted on occasion, and it was widely perceived that the Old Trafford outfit had a good chance of landing him this month.
However given Zenit’s forthcoming proposal, coupled with the fact that Napoli are also rumoured to be eyeing a swoop for the 27-year-old, it’s now beginning to look like United will yet again miss out on a long-term target.
