The rumour mill has gone into overdrive after photographs of David Moyes watching the Juventus vs Cagliari game emerged online.

The Manchester United boss has made no secret of the fact he wants to strengthen his squad, which has been struggling since he took over.

Last season's Premier League champions are currently floundering in seventh place, ten points behind current leaders Manchester City, leading to demand for new signings.
It is unclear exactly who Moyes was watching during the Serie A game, although he has already been linked with Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio, Juventus' central midfield playmakers.

Given Manchester United's perceived weakness in midfield, it would be unsurprising if Moyes were to make a bid for Vidal or Marchisio, both of whom would add some creativity and drive to the midfield.

Vidal has been nicknamed 'The Warrior' due to his tough tackling and abrasive attitude, and is a world class box to box midfielder who would fulfil the role that sole summer signing Marouane Fellaini has so far failed to grasp. The Chilean would certainly be a welcome addition to the squad from the fans point of view.

Conversely, Moyes may be more interested in Claudio Marchisio, who could provide the creativity that Kagawa has barely supplied this season. The 27-year-old Italian is an excellent all-rounder who has found himself on the sidelines at Juventus this season. He would have done himself no harm by scoring in the 4-1 victory over Cagliari.

The main reason for Marchisio being pushed down the ranks at Juventus has been the excellent form of Frenchman Paul Pogba, leading to some excited fans to suggest that Moyes may be preparing a dramatic bid to bring the talented youngster back to Old Trafford, after he left Manchester United for Juventus in the summer of 2012.

Whilst this would be an excellent signing for Moyes to make, it is unlikely given the acrimonious circumstances with which Pogba left Old Trafford, with former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson annoyed that he believed Pogba had signed for Juventus a long time before officially leaving the Red Devils.

Another possibility is that David Moyes was looking to strengthen his defence, and Cagliari’s centre back Davide Astori has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester.

With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand past their best and out of contract in the summer, Moyes will be looking for a central defender to shore up his leaky defence and to provide some competition for the unconvincing and inconsistent Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

The Old Trafford outfit are certainly in the market for a central defender, and chief scout Robbie Cooke watched the La Liga game between Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal to watch highly-rated defender Mateo Musacchio.

These scouting missions are adding weight to the belief that Moyes will conduct a clear out and show players such as Nani, Anderson and Zaha the door.

And whilst a move for Paul Pogba is unlikely, there’s every chance that Moyes will attempt to sign Vidal, Marchisio or Astori as he attempts to reverse his clubs fortune.

Whilst he has endured a frustrating start to the season, he still retains the full backing of the clubs board and fans, in the assumption that he will make signings such as these.
