On Monday night we saw Cristiano Ronaldo finally win the Ballon D’or award. It was a long wait for him and we saw a very emotional Ronaldo collect the award. He thanked his Real Madrid teammates, the Portuguese national team, his girlfriend and his family.

We also saw the introduction of the FIFA Ballon d'or Prix d'Honneur, which acknowledges the the best player of the 20th century and this could of only gone to one man. The only player to have won the World Cup three times, none other than Pele.

Other awards included the Manager of the Year, which went to Jupp Heynckes (former manager of FC Bayern Munich), the Fifa Puskas Award which was a awarded to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the FIFPro World XI, which included the likes of Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Thiago Silva and Ronaldo to name just a few.

This year, Ronaldo was the highest scorer in La Liga, top scorer in the Champions League and he also single-handedly sent Portugal to the Fifa World Cup.

Once again, Ronaldo is the king of world football and it is very well deserved. He was able to beat out two other fantastic players in Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery.
