Manchester United could be willing to use Nani as a makeweight in a potential deal to sign one of the Primeira Liga's most promising starlets, it has been suggested.
According to reports cited by the Daily Express, the Premier League champions could be willing to sacrifice the frustrating winger in a bid to land Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho in the summer - a player who supposedly has a release clause worth a whopping £37 million in his current contract at Estádio José Alvalade.
21-year-old Carvalho, a marauding midfielder by trade, has enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough season with Sporting and also made his international bow as a substitute during the second and decisive leg of Portugal's World Cup qualifying playoff tie against Sweden in November.
Manchester United have been mentioned in connection with the player in the past, as have Arsenal - with reports last week suggesting that the Premier League leaders had ordered scouts to compile a detailed scout report on Carvalho ahead of a potential January move.
Carvalho's compatriot, Nani, has endured a frustrating spell at Old Trafford of late and his future has become the source of almost constant speculation. Serie A champions Juventus have previously been linked with a move for the inconsistent winger, as have former employers Sporting.
On the face of it, if Manchester United and Moyes were to sanction such a deal, it would not come as too much of a surprise.
With the club having watched Carvalho extensively, they will surely know the attributes and strengths that he could bring to Old Trafford.
Nani has become a constant source of frustration for the Red Devils faithful over recent seasons, and it seems unlikely that too may would be disappointed to see him depart.
