Ageing Chelsea stars Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry could be line to receive new contracts that will keep them at the club, according to ESPN.
The source, citing The Sun, claims that the trio, who have all be mainstays in the Blues first-team for the last few years, are set to be offered extensions to their contracts despite rumours that they were all set to either retire or move abroad.
Jose Mourinho is said to have been impressed with the work rate of his old guard since returning as manager last summer.
Furthermore, as per agreement between himself and owner Roman Abramovich that allows the Portuguese coach to be in control of players’ futures, he has decided that Terry, Cole and Lampard are all good enough to remain for at least another season.
With Terry and Cole now 33 and Lampard 35, it remains to be seen how much they can hope to be involved on the pitch as of next year, and Mourinho has already made it clear that he is planning on improving his squad.
Ex-Blues star Nemanja Matic is expected to complete his return to Stamford Bridge this week, with Benfica having agreed terms for his sale.
