Borrusia Monchengladbach have reportedly told Newcastle they will have to wait if they wish to sign Luuk De Jong.

Gladbach are currently in third in the Bundesliga and have told Newcastle they will have to hold fire until cover is signed to replace De Jong if they wish to bring in him to St James' Park.

Newcastle first went in for De Jong in 2012 before the Foals purchased the youngster from Twente for £12 million.

The Swiss born striker has reportedly turned down offers from West Brom and Stoke in order to join the Toon if the deal can be done.

De Jong has fallen out of favour at the German club after Max Kruse joined in the summer and has taken over the role as striker for the club.

He has only appeared in 13 games for Borrusia this year and has as yet failed to find the net.

Newcastle's interest in De Jong does not signal any change with Papiss Cisse. The Senegal international is not going anywhere despite interest from the Middle East.
