Manchester United handed boost in Coentrao race

Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race to sign Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao as it appears the La Liga giants are closing in on the signing of Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno.

Reports from Spain suggest Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Moreno from La Liga outfit Sevilla.

Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with Moreno in the last couple of months but have switched attention to other targets.

Red Devils boss Moyes is keen on landing Coentrao in January - but has been put off by Real Madrid's £20million asking price.

Manchester United are keen on signing Portuguese international on loan until the end of the season before buying the defender outright in the summer.

However the two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the left-back, who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu for £25million in 2011.

It was being reported that Coentrao would be staying in Spain due to Manchester United's refusal to meet Real Madrid's valuation, however Moyes' chances of landing his primary left-back target will improve if Moreno does move to the La Liga giants.
