Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will be hired as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings according to Adam Schefter.
Schefter tweeted that: "Vikings are hiring Mike Zimmer as their HC, per league source."
Zimmer is understood to have been the favorite for the vacant job for much of the off-season.
The Vikings fired previous head coach, Leslie Frazier after the team finished with a 5-10-1 record. Frazier had led the team to the playoffs in 2012.
This will be Zimmer's first head coaching job after previously being a defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons and Bengals.
The Bengals had the fifth best defense in the league last season with Zimmer as defensive coordinator. Cincinnati had also made the playoffs for the past three seasons.
Zimmer interviewed for the vacant Cleveland Browns head coaching job last year but the job eventually went to Rob Chudzinski.
Vikings' tight-end Kyle Rudolph responded to the news on twitter saying: "Fired up about Coach Zimmer! As a Cincy kid he's been fun to watch there and can't wait to work with him! Welcome to the @Vikings!"
The hire leaves the Cleveland Browns as the only vacant head coaching job in the league.
